Welcome BILTNA Attendees!

Hey there!

You're probably on this page because you either attended one of my sessions, got a cool sticker, or I simply told you about it! Either way, welcome!

This is the home of The Revit Kid Blog, DIY Dynamo, and the BIM After Dark video series!

Below you will find information on my current and previous BILT NA (or RTCNA) conference presentations.  But first, here is a little about myself and this website:

Over ten years ago I started TheRevitKid.com mainly to help my peers. I remember when I first began learning Revit there were very few online resources to help someone learn it. There was also a limited amount of video style tutorials. I bought books and tried learning that way but it just wasn't the way I learned. So I created this website to teach you about Revit and BIM abroad the way I wish I was taught... Through easy to follow, and to the point, video tutorials.

If you are new to the website or blog here are some important links and information to get you started:

Searching the Blog:

There are over 1,200 posts on this blog spanning over the past eight years... I know, crazy!? Sometimes even I have trouble finding an old post. I decided to put together a little video that will guide you through the website and demonstrate how to take full advantage and get the most value out of the blog...

BIM. After Dark Series:

Back in 2013 I decided to create multiple curated, full length, video tutorial series. Since then, over 1,836 students have completed the various courses.

These courses are part of a series I call "BIM. After Dark". They range in topics from presentation techniques to Revit parametric family creation to Dynamo.

Here is a list of the current courses I currently offer:

BIM After Dark - Volume 1: BIM can be sexy...
BIM After Dark - Volume 2: BIM can make paper...
BIM After Dark - Volume 3: BIM can make anything...
DIY Dynamo: A Beginners Course on Dynamo for Revit

BILT North America 2019

Session 1.4:

Assemble Systems:

BIM For Everyone, Autodesk's Latest Addition

Thanks for attending the session this year!  This one was a little different as most of my previous sessions were solely focused on presentation and graphics.  Although there was plenty of pretty pictures and visualizations in the slide deck this session focused on the data (or information) in BIM.  Assemble (now an Autodesk product) has unleashed a new frontier of easy access to BIM data...

After attending this session, my hope is that you will finally have a way of giving everyone access tot he power, data, and value that you know, but they don't, exists in BIM.

Resources and Links Mentioned:

Assemble Systems
Assemble's Download Page - Find Add-Ins for uploading from Revit, CAD, Navis, etc... There are also Excel and Power BI templates here...
Conditioning With Assemble - Free Webinar I hosted two years ago...
Dynamo - I don't think I really needed to link this, but, I did mention it.
Ramboll Computational Design Blog
Hypar - Computational Design Package
TestFit.io - Generative design software...
Microsoft Power BI
Architect Machines

Session 3.1:

Construction Can Be Sexy:

How Visualization Tools Help Us Build

Thanks for attending my session about how we use visualization tools every day at Turner Construction.  I hope you enjoyed the session!  Below, you will find some relevant links, tips, and information that I mentioned throughout the presentation.

Remember, pop your head out of the trench every once and a while and think about what you can do to help the industry advance towards a fully 3-dimensional future...

Oh, and keep it sexy folks.  ;)

Resources and Links Mentioned:

BIM After Dark - Volume 1 (Redux): Set to release soon...   This is a complete update on a series I crated back in 2013.  It will be packed with tips and tricks to help you create the type of images, videos, and virtual reality environments you saw through my session.
Revit Diagram Tips
From Revit to Lumion - The Ultimate Review (8.0)
Lumion Pro 8.0 - Used for renderings and videos presented.
3D Printing and Revit - It's Possible!
Enscape 3D - Used for Virtual Reality (VR)
Enscape3D - Free Sample Files

RTC North America 2016

Session 2.5: How Are Contractors Using My Models?

Thanks for attending my session about the downstream use of BIM.  I hope you enjoyed the session and learned how valuable your model is for construction and how much fun sharing can be!

If you are interested in seeing an abridged version of the "Revit Model for Quantity Takeoff" best practices (as discussed in the class) then click here...

Additionally, if you want to download some of the free resources I've created, such as the "GUIDE: Creating Your Own Template" & the "Family Cheat Sheet", click here to download them today...

Other Notes and Resources from the Class:

Assemble Systems - This is the web-based quantity takeoff software I mentioned.  Really neat!
Tyler Goss's QR Code Video - I showed an abridged (and muted) version of this video.
From Revit to Lumion Review/Guide - I used Lumion to make many of the renderings and videos ou saw...

RTC North America 2014

If you have followed this website at all you know that I am a huge fan of Prezi.  Naturally, I created my presentation for RTCNA 2014 using Prezi.  Because Prezi is best when used online I thought this would be an excellent place for you to view it.

If you have ever wanted to make images that look like these... this class was for you!

Session 8: Inside-Immersive Rendering as a Design Tool

This is the session in which I am filling in for Tom de Plater.  During the session I will review how to move from Revit into CryEngine 3.  At the end of the session the audience will be able to try on a pair of Oculus Rift VR goggles and experience a Revit model immersively...

Session 10: Revit to 3DS Max to VRay: How to Create the Most Photo-Realistic Revit Models Ever

Use the right arrow key on your keyboard to move through the presentation.  If you have problems viewing the presentation, click here to view it on Prezi.com.

If you attended the conference download the handout and dataset.  In true Revit Kid fashion, the dataset contains a 45 minute video tutorial series running through the entire process of using Revit, 3DS Max, and VRay....

If you did not attend RTC and would still like to learn many of the topics I go over in my presentation head over to BIM After Dark and learn now!
