Design Intelligence - AIAS Forum Synopsis

How interesting that one of my favorite websites (Design Intelligence) in which I spent a fraction of my travels to AIAS Forum reading essays and books from, wrote a very nice synopsis about the Forum.

There has never been a time in human history when strategic foresight was more needed. The American Institute of Architecture Students delivered a good dose of it last week. In fact, the AIAS Forum in Minneapolis was an exemplar in several ways.

The Twin Cities’ below-zero temperatures and deep snow did not cool the Forum participants’ expectations that this would be a relevant and dynamic session. More than 500 students participated, 20 of whom were vying for elected office in AIAS.

As the students energetically took over the Hyatt Regency Hotel, there was an organized and spontaneous discussion on meaningful change and overcoming difficulties. Furthermore, there was palpable passion for the future brimming with ingenuity. The emerging environmental leadership was at once sophisticated and convincing....

AIAS Forum 2009 - Here!

Finally, I have arrived in Minnesota. Feels like I have been traveling all day. I just had dinner at "Spikes" sports bar on the first floor of the hotel. I started reading a very interesting book on the plane that I would like to tell you all about. When I finish the book it will surely have an influence on some future posts. The book is titled, "The Genius in the Design". It is basically a biography about the lives of Bernini and Borromini. I have read hald of the book and recommend it to all.

Tonight is the Welcome party for the forum. If I don't fall asleep before it begins I will be attending. I recieved a package from Autodesk full of goodies to pass out at the table. I am very excited and prepared for the Career Expo tomorrow. Hope to see some of you there?

Oh, and why must it be so cold here?! I am rom Connecicut and this is rediculous (-6 degrees right now).

AIAS Forum - The Countdown!

In less than a week I will be blogging to you all from Minnesota. I am very excited and honored to be manning the Autodesk Table at this years Career Expo. I will also be attending the Welcoming Party. Please, if you are going to any of these events come say hi to me and we can chat a little bit about Revit and BIM. Here are some links as well:

And some info on the Career Expo:

ARCHITECTURE COLLEGE + CAREER EXPO
Wednesday, December 30 11:00 AM – 1:30 PM
Free Lunch included

The annual Expo is an opportunity for AIAS members to meet face-to-face with architecture firms, graduate schools, product manufacturers, professional associations and other organizations. It is a "one-stop shopping" event to find out more about the architecture and building industries and to explore educational and career opportunities. A complimentary lunch will be provided. You are encouraged to bring a resume to share with the participating exhibitors.

They are expected over 1,000 people to be attending the Career Expo and I am very excited to preach the word of Revit and BIM to each and every one of them. I will also be taking as many videos and pictures as I can to document my journey. Should be fun.

ARCHcareers.org

Another great find I would like to share.

"Do you want to be an Architect? ARCHcareers.org will lead you through the steps in becoming an architect. The “Three E’s” of architecture will be your guide. They are: Education, Experience and Examination. Whether you are a high school student, a parent, a university student or an intern, these are the three core principles of the architecture profession. You must satisfy all three parts to call yourself an "Architect." This Web site will give you an overview to the varied and diverse paths to a career in architecture and of the requirements for registration..."

I am still exploring and reading all of the information they have on this site.  This is especially a great site for students.
