Tutorial - Revit Decals

Paul asked,

"I have a question for you, and if you can answer it that would be great. I want to put pictures or images on the wall. I want to just take a basic picture from a file and put it on the wall. I can't seem to figure that out."

Paul was not the only person who emailed me asking roughly the same question.  Therefore, I decided to make a short video on the easiest way to go about it.

Topics Discussed:
  • Creating Decals
  • Editing Decal Types
  • Placing Decals
  • Editing Placed Decals

I'm having issues with placing decals. I know they aren't supposed to show up unless rendered, but I do everything right and it still won't show. Any suggestions?

Thanks-Michelle

Michelle I was having this same issue of the image not rendering. I learned that if you're saving a Photoshop file as a JPEG and the PSD file still has layers, flatten the image first before saving as a JPEG and make sure the color mode is set to RBG. Hope this helps.
Can you put a tutorial up for how to get a decal to snap to a component? I tried to place a decal on a television screen for a rendering to make it look like a movie was on but it just snaps to the wall behind the TV instead.
I was able to load the decal correctly and it shows up fine on my rendering. I used an image that I wanted to use for for full wall to wall up to ceiling wallpaper. It's set to 7'X10' pieces. How do I trim the excess of the decal off when I get to the end of a wall? Especially when there is only about 2' wide of space left
