Revit Tip - Strip Down Model for Sharing

This is an awesome tip I saw on Twitter one day.  I cannot remember who posted it (if you were the publisher please let me know and I will give you credit!).

It can be quite a hassle to save and prepare a Revit model to share with consultants, contractors, etc... Personally, I am all a little more liberal when it comes to sharing my Revit models.  Of course, many companies are still very conservative when it comes to what information is left in the model (ie. Titleblocks, details, families, etc...).

Stripping the model of the "baggage" can be cumbersome to say the least.  The video below will show you an awesome tip that will could possibly save you hours of time.

Paolo, understood. I agree that most will want rooms... The idea is that whatever you have in that view/sheet will be extracted into a new model.

Use this tip and tweak it for your needs... Perhaps adding the floor plans with rooms onto the sheet before exporting would keep rooms but still strip the rest of the stuff out..
Yes, I can confirm that exporting a 3D model alone will not bring the room objects with it (for better or worse). As TheRevitKid says, you can solve this issue by putting a couple floor plan views on this export sheet also.

This is a really cool trick, I have already found it useful in creating some standard export sheets for MPE and Structural in our company template. Our consultants will be quite happy with these smaller files minus the detach from Central issues.

Nick, thanks for checking it out and experimenting. Great info!
David, I will test the schedule idea... That is a good one!

I, too, have had some crazy workflows to separate pieces of a model and such... this has helped me greatly! I just wish I could remember who posted it on Twitter and give them the credit they deserve!

You might want to test this in Navisworks, we used a similar method a few years back and the exported file contained different GUIDs for the elements for each export. The elements were linked to the 4D timeline. It required re-linking of most off the elements in the file. Simple free API plugins are available.

This method will also remove Shared Site. We use add-ins for this kind of export.
Has anyone figured how to get the exported file to keep the project phasing?
Everything comes out as New Construction.

Help! I'm trying this process but I have an existing building and when I export my 3D view, some of my demo'd elements appear in the new exported file. The phase is set correctly when I export but when I open the exported file, some of my demo'd walls and elements are there. Anyone experience this problem?
Is there anyway to do this and have the project base point and survey point remain the same as the original file? I´m doing some tests and the new file has both points at 0,0,0 regarless of where the original file has them.

Here´s what´s happening: https://www.dropbox.com/s/nzzi9vhcuxk8t2e/REV%20E...
