The End of Navisworks?! (3D Coordination in the Cloud) - Episode 84

3D Coordination (also known as MEP Coordination or Clash Detection) is one of those things that is vital to the success of a BIM project... Did you know that it can all be done in the cloud now?!  No more playing "FTP jockey" and uploading, downloading, and verifying your data is up to date...  Could this be the end of Navisworks?!

In last night's episode of BIM After Dark Live I talked about how you can take advantage of using Autodesk Model Coordinate and more efficiently coordinate your models with your consultants, sub-contractors, and more...

Topics we covered were:
- The advantages of Revit Cloud Workshared Models on ACC / BIM 360
- Taking advantage of "views".
- Understanding the "Clash Matrix"
- Filtering Views, reviewing clashes, and navigating the viewer...
- And more....

The FREE Viewer Autodesk DOESN'T want you to know about...?

Have you ever wanted to share an interactive Revit model view, diagram, or section with a client or collaborator?  Or maybe you want to open a Rhino file without installing Rhino?  Well, this free viewer from Autodesk is pretty damn incredible... And for some reason they don't seem to want us to know about it?!

In this video I'll walk you through how to set up share a Revit model with someone and NOT need them to create an Autodesk account to view it!

BIM 360 Design Collaboration. Explained. (FINALLY!)

Well.... that was... EPIC!

On last night's episode of BIM After Dark Live I was joined by Scott Davis (AEC Tech Specialist for Autodesk) to shine some light on the BIM 360 / Autodesk Construction Cloud platform with an emphasis on Design Collaboration...

All you need to know is we chatted for almost 2 hours and well over 100 people hung out and were active in the chat room the entire time!

Scott and I talked about the differences between BIM 360 and Autodesk Construction Cloud, How to setup a project, add members, create teams, setup a Revit Cloud Workshared model, and the three different Revit linking options... While taking many questions from the chat!

Of course, we also talked about publishing and consuming packages ;)

Whatever this platform ends up being called in the future, adoption of it across project teams is (and will) change the industry... I truly believe that.

GTeam - Gehry Hits the Cloud with BIM

Juliana, who jokingly referred to herself as "The Revit Grandma" in an email to me, pointed me to a very interesting link. Looks like Gehry Technologies is hitting the cloud... FOR FREE to try!  I can't wait to give this a try later....

Greetings,

We are very excited here at Gehry Technologies to announce the public Free Preview launch of GTeam, our new cloud-based 3D, file management and project collaboration platform. Inspired by Frank Gehry’s vision of collaboration, GTeam was created specifically for Architecture, Engineering and Construction professionals using a 3D centric approach to project delivery. Unlike traditional file-sharing solutions, GTeam is purpose-built for the AEC industry to support the needs of BIM teams, with an open platform that enables collaboration regardless of the authoring tools being used by the individual participants.

Many of our early customers are having great success with GTeam and we hope you give GTeam a try on a few of your projects! You can try it free today with unlimited users, projects and storage.

 About GTeam
GTeam is a new way for Architecture, Engineering, Construction professionals and Owners to collaborate and share project and 3D design information. Using GTeam as a central platform, you can easily share and view 3D models online, organize all your projects files in one place, and keep everyone on the same page!

Looks like Autodesk's BIM 360 and Graphisoft's Open BIM may have a competitor... I wonder what the price margin will be...

Autodesk BIM 360

Looks like Autodesk countered VectorWork's "Open BIM" pretty quickly... The acquisition of Vela systems appears to be the final piece of the puzzle.  Personally, I can't wait to see what this will evolve into over the next few years.  If you check out the services link below you will find something new called "Autodesk BIM 360 Glue"...  As Greg pointed out this looks similar to the Vela Systems application... Interesting...
