Tutorial - Glass vs. Glazing

Lots of the emails I have been receiving tend to revolve around rendering.  Many of them are about the plague of "dark renderings".  This video was the result of two emails I received where custom windows were built.

The problem with the custom windows were the glass was a tad thick (around an inch to an inch and a half) and the render material was set to "Clear Glass" and not "Clear Glazing".  This is all very application specific, but it is definitely something that you want to keep in mind when creating glazing and rendering in Revit.  Enjoy and I hope it helps!

Topics Covered:
  • Rendering Materials: Glass and Glazing
  • Rendering Comparison of Curtain Walls
  • Rendering Comparison of Cubes

Hi Jeff, Thanks For your reply. These questions are just from the top of my head, I just wonder if revit come with tools draw the street and street gutters etcs.
Oh Jeff, do you know how or where to get the roof finished materials, like roof tiles, spanish roof tiles etcs with revit 2010?
Thanks Jeff.
Excellent tutorial. Here's one more reason why some might be having trouble with dark renderings. If you are using phasing in your project, make sure that your phase and phase filter settings are set appropriately for the rendered view (such as "show all").

Perhaps you’re considering a project that requires blast resistant glazing, but you are not sure what to expect. Many of the architect design teams have hired blast consultants to review submittals in detail.
When I render my windows and sloped glazing are coming out gray with no light coming through. I enabled windows and curtain wall in the render set up and still have the same issue. Do you know how to fix this? What am I doing wrong? Thanks
Monica, your material sounds like it it set to defaul (grey) and not a type of glazing. I hope this helps..
Thanks for this nice information about Glass Glazing...
