Design By Many

What a great idea from the guys at CASE....

..Welcome to the public Beta of DesignByMany!!DesignByMany is a challenge based design technology community. Users post challenges to the community along with their design source files. The community can then post responses with their own source files to solve the challenge. They can also comment on the challenge and interact with other designers throughout the process.

DesignByMany is an extension of DesignReform and is hosted and maintained by CASE. DesignByMany has partnered with Hewlett Packard as an exclusive sponsor for the first year.
HP will be sponsoring monthly challenges and providing prizes such as plotters and printers. Sponsored challenges will be judged by designers, architects, engineers, contractors and others involved in the process of making buildings.

DesignByMany is itself a work in progress and we’re trying our best to get all the features you need to create challenges and share projects. If you have any ideas or feedback PLEASE let us know by sending an email to info@case-inc.com.

Thanks VERY much,

DesignByMany Team...

Revit Tutorial (Vasari) - Adaptive Components (Design Reform)

The very first Revit video I ever watched was a Design Reform, David Fano, video... I had the pleasure of taking his class at AU and here are a couple little videos that dive a bit into the world of adaptive components:

Go check out his website!

Revit Tutorial - Adaptive Components (Design Reform)

Three or four years ago when I began learning/exploring the world of Revit there were very few resources for video tutorials (especially FREE tutorials).  David, over at Design Reform taught me a lot of the more advanced things I know about Revit thanks to his great tutorials.  Well, he is BACK!  After a long while of a post here and there, David created a very useful tutorial:

Autodesk Revit 2011 – Intro to Adaptive Components

Software: Autodesk Revit Architecture 2011
Description: In this Autodesk Revit Architecture 2011 training video, we’ll cover the basics of how to build an adaptive component.  This is not the traditional or expected use.  This video used the adaptive component to construct a mass.  That being said the logic can be used independence of scale (from a panel to a mass).
Topics Covered:
  • Adaptive Components
  • Mass Families
  • Reference Planes

Tutorial Videos.

Wow... this is my 200th post, I have 70 followers, over 400 RSS subscribers, and the blog has exceeded 100,000 hits! WOOHOO. Thank you to all my readers. I cannot believe how fast this blog has grown. I guess there was a void somewhere that I filled and I am so very grateful to be able to share my passions with you all.

Well I wanted to share with you a few new videos from DesignReform.net:
The Solar Radiation Technology videos are a great expansion of my post.

Thanks again for coming back every day to read, learn, and discuss all things Revit, BIM, Architecture, and Sustainability.

Stayed tuned for so much more... The mid-summer blues are starting and I haven't had a Design class in a few semesters. Needless to say, I cannot wait to start school. Weird, huh?

Revit Coordinate System Video.

Yet another great video that I had to repost from DesignReform.net. I really enjoy the different approach and subject that is touched upon by this video. Not many Revit users (none that I know) even bring up the thought of utilizing the coordinate system. I, personally, have thought about it in terms of relation to CAD.

From DesignReform.net:

"Description:
In this video I walk through the relationship of the default Revit coordinate system (both in Revit 2009 and 2010) to your geometry, and show how to overwrite that coordinate system as well as make sure that the new system pushes through to exported files. After that, we walk through a comparison of how Revit 2010 visualizes the project basepoint as well as the differences in the importing interface with the earlier 2009 version.

Topics Covered:
  • Overwriting Revit’s internal coordinates
  • Exporting to CAD with the correct coordinate system
  • Importing CAD elements under a shared coordinate system
  • Revit 2010’s new project basepoint UI explainedd
  • Relocating a project vs moving the project basepoint
  • Pinning the project basepoint
