From Revit to Unreal Engine (Replay) w/Carl Gibson

As expected, last night's episode of BIM After Dark Live was a ton of fun!

Many of you have tuned into my Twinmotion and Revit tutorials, streams, and tips... Many of you may not know that Twinmotion runs on a gaming engine called "Unreal".

On this episode of BIM After Dark Live I was joined by Carl Gibson as he ran through the process of getting your Revit models into the Unreal Engine environment for renderings, animations, and VR!

Some of the topics Carl touched on are:
-Summary of tools needed (Revit, Unreal Engine, Datasmith Exporters)
-Prepping a model for Datasmith
-Importing into UE
-DataPrep graph for model optimization, material replacement, etc.
-Setting up a project for VR.

If you have been wanting to learn the process of getting your model's into Unreal or are curious as to what Unreal can do for you, be sure to check out the replay below...

"Real-Time Rumble" Live Happy Hour Replay

For those of you who joined me live yesterday, thanks!  I hope you had as much fun as I did.  It's amazing how fast an hour actually goes when you start diving into topics.  For those of you who couldn't make it live, here is the replay...(or above).

I wanted to share some of the links mentioned in the live session.

The new BIM. After Dark.

During the live stream, I was so excited about the progress I have made on the new BIM After Dark, I had to share it with the group.  As I mentioned in the live session I will be holding a small "beta member" launch of the new BIM After Dark.  Check out the live session for more information.

Ultimately, BIM. After Dark. will be a premium community based learning platform for taking your Revit game to the next level and connecting with others doing the same (oh, and with me!).

Click here to sign up and get "beta member" notifications...

From Revit to Enscape - The Ultimate Review

I have been using Enscape since it was in beta and crashed more than it actually ran.  I have watched the company and software evolve over the last 4+ years.  I continue to use Enscape today and continue to be impressed by many aspects of the program.

With my recent reviews of Lumion 10 and Twinmtion 2020, plus the fact that I haven't really mentioned Enscape since 2017, I thought it was about time to review the latest version of Enscape (2.7) and some of the ways I use it.

Enscape3D - Free Sample Projects and Files

Last year I published a post that explained why Enscape3D had become my virtual reality (VR) software of choice.  If you missed it, you can read the "Virtual Reality and Revit" review post by clicking here.

Well, fast forward to today and Enscape3D is still my VR program of choice for many of the same reasons I mentioned last year.  Of course, the folks over at Enscape3D have done a great job adding new features and improving the software since then.  Today I just wanted to point out a little-known resource available on the Enscape3D website...

Virtual Reality and Revit in the Real-World ( Success Story with HTC Vive & Enscape 3D )

I know every single person who reads this blog is familiar with the explosion of Virtual Reality (VR) over the last few years.  I know, because I have also been saturated with everything "VR". My first personal experience with VR was using Google Cardboard over two years ago...   As you can imagine, VR has come a long way since that post.

Initially, emerging technologies can battle with the concept of pragmatism.  The first thing you hear with something like AR, VR, Dynamo, etc.. is "cool, but how can I use it in the 'real-world'"?

Today, I wanted to talk about a recent real-world experience with VR.  More specifically, with Revit, the HTC Vive, and Enscape 3D.

... Continue reading to hear about the success story and my thoughts on the aforementioned technologies (including a breakdown of the hardware and software we used)...
